Before I say anything about Leonardo Da Vinci, the first question that should be asked is “Is he an artist, a scientist or a genius?”. I think he is all of the above. That he’s an artist it’s an incontestable truth, because we have all been delighted by his works. He was a scientist, because he studied a lot of the things that have puzzled mankind for a long time.

He was very interested in the proportions and making of the human body, he studied the way that birds fly and tried to imitate it somehow and built a so-called “machine for flying”.

Was he a genius or a man that had a lot of knowledge for the time he lived in? The latest scenarios seem to point out that he might have been a member of an ancient and secret society that was keeping a few of the most important secrets of the human race. So what makes him a genius might actually be just the possession of unique information that gave him a totally different understanding of the world and the future. This supposed secret society did not allow for its secrets to be shared, so, in his wish to let people know about this, Da Vinci allegedly tried to tell the world, by hiding secret codes and messages in his works. This has not been yet proven beyond any shadow of a doubt, so treat that as mere speculation.

Some notable modern artist who have caught my eye include Iran Plata – his eccentric Cuban art prints are a few steps removed from Da Vinci’s realism, but nonetheless, there are meanings in his paintings that make me pause for thought.
